With a fully booked team, the Botafogo defeated the Sao Carlinsi Syndicate By 3 to 1 on Monday, at the Estádio Luisão, in São Carlos, the first stage of the Sao Paulo Cup Juniors with a 100% success rate, which hasn’t happened since 2018. Leo Pedro was the top scorer of the morning with two goals.
Now, Glorioso is awaiting the outcome of Group 20, which takes place on Tuesday night only. Group 19 leader, Fugau will face the second-placed team comprising Red Bull Bragantino (which must confirm leadership), ABC, Maringa and Limensee.
the game
With the opposition needing a win to dream of qualification, Botafogo took advantage of the counter-attack to open the scoring, and in a brilliant plot. In nine minutes, Joao Felipe stole the ball and sent it at Rafael Lobato, who played in the middle for Iago Renato to introduce Leo Pedro, with a great shot, making it 1-0.
Gradually, Grêmio São-Carlense leveled the game and managed to equalize with Klefferson, grabbing the rebound from outside the area: 1 to 1. The defensive midfielder of the home team almost converted after almost four minutes, but Lucas Barreto made a wonderful save. Plus, Botafogo is back in front: Igor França rolled on the right and Leo Pedro checked him with a cart, making it 2 to 1.
The second half was played at a slower pace, with Botafogo controlling the ball well and not letting Grêmio São Carlense get too dangerous. In the end, Glorioso still managed to close the account. Rafael Lobato came down from the right and put the right amount for Sabata, who, entering the second half, made it easier and kicked with his left foot, beating goalkeeper Giovanni: 3 to 1. It was the fourth goal of this number. 7 per cup.
Botafogo next match
Botafogo will face in the second stage the runner-up of Group 20, which will only be known on Tuesday evening: Red Bull Bragantino (who must confirm leadership), ABC, Maringá or Lemense. Glorioso’s next match is supposed to take place on Thursday in Sao Carlos.
