The unique match of the first stage of the 2024 Brazilian Cup, between Real Noroeste and… Cuiabá, has been postponed. The reason was the condition of the field at the José Olimpio da Rocha stadium, which was flooded with water after the rain that hit the municipality of Aguia Branca, in Espirito Sano, on Wednesday evening.
The refereeing crew and representatives of the Brazilian Confederation conducted inspections of the stadium, one hour before the scheduled start of the match at 9:30 pm (Brasilia time). At 10:30 pm, it was confirmed that the match could not be played on the submerged pitch, especially in the midfield area.
So far, the match has been rescheduled by the entity to be held at the end of the afternoon, Thursday, at 5:30 pm (Brasilia time).
Cuyaba lives in Collatina, a city 82 km from Aguia Branca, where the match will be played. Therefore, the Uriverde club will have to travel three times: going to the hotel, returning to the stadium, and finally leaving Espirito Santo.
According to the regulations, Real Madrid dominates the field, but Cuiaba plays with an equalizer advantage, as it holds a better position in the Brazilian club classification. Whoever qualifies will face Portuguesa RG, who plays away from home.
