On Thursday, Major League Soccer released its list of nominees for its 2023 awards. As for the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, which selects the best player in the regular season, it appears on the list. Messi, who has played in only four league matches for Inter Miami so far. For each category, each club was responsible for appointing its representatives, “in recognition of their outstanding performance throughout the 2023 regular season.” Messi and Busquets, who signed for Inter Miami during the off-season, are the only two Hirons players in contention for the league’s Player of the Year award. Jordi Alba, who also arrived midway through the year, was the team’s nominee for Defender of the Year.
The winner in each category will be selected through votes by journalists, members of the clubs’ technical committees, and MLS players. The three groups have equal weight in voting. The process continues from October 10 to 23 after the end of the regular season.
