MANAUS (Morning) – The Governor of Amazonas State, Wilson Lima, announced on Tuesday 23 the investment of more than R$12.9 million for new notifications in the field of science, technology and innovation, to be implemented through Amazonas State Research Support Foundation (Fapeam).
The ceremony was held at the Amazonas Government headquarters in the Compensa neighborhood in the western region of the capital. The ceremony celebrates National Science Day and National Scientific Researcher Day, which is celebrated on July 8.
“We are launching 11 notices today, as a result of this collection of information and the demand from researchers and students and also, of course, the reality that Amazonas is facing.”The governor said during a press conference held on this occasion.
The notifications issued, eight of them new and three reissued for the second half of 2024, were available from 4pm on the Fapeam website, supporting 145 research projects to be developed in the capital and within the state.

In addition to the notifications, a protocol of intent was also signed for the participation of scientists from agencies and universities in technical assistance due to river droughts and climate phenomena.
“This is a protocol of intent to share information, share reports and understand perceptions of the climate events we have been experiencing over the past year. All of these guidelines and information are important in the decision-making process of the state government.”Governor Wilson Lima said.
The Scientific Technical Committee will be composed of key experts and their alternates, on specific topics related to severe climate change: water and energy resources; public health; environmental education; degrading measures; economic impact; prevention, mitigation and adaptation; social and food security; transport; forests and climate; impacts of applied research and technology.
Among the responsibilities, maintaining an updated database, providing studies and opinion opinions on prevention, mitigation and adaptation strategies for the studied problems and their consequences, promoting studies as per the mission and proposing awareness campaigns are some of the responsibilities of the Scientific Committee.
“All the knowledge produced by researchers from all institutions will add up so that the Amazonian government can make the best decisions and corrective and preventive actions to reduce the damage caused by drought. So, all this must be fought with science, technology and information.The university president highlighted University of Amazonas State (UEA)Andre Zgheib.
