Why did Jordan Chiles lose his medal? The US committee failed to comply with the regulation · TV News

It has been decided: North American gymnast Jordan Chiles will have to return the bronze medal she won in the individual floor competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games – the same event in which Rebecca Andrade won the gold. The IOC has already contacted the United States Olympic Committee to return the medal, which will be awarded to Romanian athlete Ana Barbosu in a new ceremony.

The information was published by the IOC itself, which also explained the reason for the decision. The Romanian Olympic Committee filed a request to reconsider the podium, on the grounds that the US gymnasts’ delegation failed to comply with competition regulations.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) held a hearing and heard both sides. Ultimately, it was determined that Jordan’s 0.100 addition data was in fact irregular.

The increase was granted after the United States filed a request for a score review shortly after Jordan’s bid. It initially scored 13,666 points. With the review request, it was awarded 13,766 points, beating the Romanians and securing a place on the podium.

The problem was that the request was submitted seconds after the deadline. The regulation states that the State Committee only has the right to request a review of the memorandum one minute after it is announced.

With this decision, Ana Barboso, who received a score of 13.700 on her show, came in third place. Sabrina Manica-Vojnia received the same score as her compatriot, but was placed fourth on the tiebreak criteria. Simone Biles came in second, and Rebecca Andrade came in first.

The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) confirmed the IOC’s decision. “Following the publication of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decision, the FIG confirms that the results of the women’s artistic gymnastics floor final, scheduled for 5 August 2024, have been changed in accordance with the decision.”

After the return of the medal was announced, Jordan announced that she would be taking a break from social media for “mental health.” Previously, she had posted a series of broken heart emojis.

Simone Biles supported her teammate. “Sending you so much love Jordan. Keep your chin up Olympic champion! We love you,” the gymnast wrote.
