According to the Central BankThis is the seventh data leak since the launch of Pix. The instant payment system has been available in Brazil since November 2020. The new leak could have occurred between September 28, 2023 and March 16, 2024.

Among the information that was provided irregularly were: username, individual taxpayer record (CPF) with mask, relationship institution, agency, and account number. According to BC, the information leak may be caused by a specific failure in the payment organization's systems. However, data protected by banking secrecy, such as balances, passwords and data, was not disclosed.

  • According to FDR specialist Leila Cunha, all customers whose information was leaked will be notified through the institution’s application or online banking services;
  • The central bank stressed in a note that this would be the only means of warning.
  • Therefore, customers should ignore communications such as phone calls, SMS, notifications via messaging apps and emails;
  • The case will be investigated by the agency.
  • If any violation is discovered, the banking institution may be subject to penalties;
  • These will be applied directly to the bank, and may include the payment of fines;
  • For clients who have been harmed, the guidance is to seek legal assistance;
  • Since keeping customer data secure is the bank's responsibility, this case may result in compensation.
