The problem is history
The incident on the Alaska Airlines flight is the latest in a series of problems and fatal accidents affecting the Boeing 737 Max. The model was introduced in 2011 by the North American manufacturer as a new generation of the successful 737, which is widely used by the world's airlines.
The MAX came with the promise of 20% fuel savings and more seating. Boeing has already introduced 4 versions of the model:
- 737 max 7 Maximum 172 passengers
- 737 max 8 Maximum 210 passengers
- 737 max 9 Maximum 220 passengers
- 737 max 10 Maximum 230 passengers
The 8 is the only version of the 737 MAX used by the Brazilian company. target Its fleet has 40 models of aircraft. The company has an order for at least 30 MAX 10 jets, which are due to be delivered from 2025, according to the contract schedule.
3rd edition (MAX 8) collects more security questions. In 2018 and 2019, 2 accidents involving aircraft of this model were recorded, in which a total of 346 people were killed. They are:
- 1st fall: 189 deaths in Indonesia recorded in October 2018;
- 2nd fall: 157 killed in Ethiopia in March 2019.
Because of this, hundreds of aircraft of this model around the world were grounded for more than a year and a half while inspections and investigations were carried out to identify the problems.
In September 2020, a US congressional inquiry report concluded “Competitive Pressure, Design Defects, and the Culture of Cover-Up” By Boeing in addition to FAA regulation “Fundamentally Deficient” Caused misery.
