On Friday (21), Fiocruz (Fundação Oswaldo Cruz) provided 6.1 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 to PNI (National Immunization Program), 800,000 more than 5.3 million doses expected.
In a note, Fiucruz said that 374,000 went to the state of Rio de Janeiro and the rest were sent to the Ministry of Health, the second week in a row that the foundation provided more doses than expected.
The memo says: “The launch of new batches today, which was in the quality control stage, allowed an increase of 800,000 doses in the amount of Covid-19 vaccines delivered.”
With the new shipment, Fiocruz reaches the mark of 41.1 million doses of AstraZeneca delivered to PNI. Of this total, 37.1 million were produced at the Institute of Technology in Immunology (Bio-Manguinhos), in Rio de Janeiro, and 4 million were imported ready-made from India.
