Venezuela is Russia’s firm ally, but it is open to trade with the United States, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Felix Placencia said at a diplomatic conference in Antalya, Turkey on Saturday. During the event, the Minister of State for South America met with Joseph Borel, High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs.
“We are a staunch ally of the Russian government and we respect its President Vladimir Putin as a responsible member of the international community. Agency Anatolia was developed in English.
At the same time, after high-level contacts with Washington last week, Placenzia fully supported the presumptive return of US oil companies to Venezuela.
“We have been doing oil business with American companies for 100 years. We never asked them to leave the country. I hope they respect the sovereignty and legitimacy of my country. If they respect that, we can do a lot together. Business,” he said.
Placenzia says Venezuela currently produces one million barrels of oil a day, and reiterated that it will reach two million by the end of the year. “We will reach this position with trusted partners such as Russia, China and Iran,” he said, adding that there was always room for the Venezuelans to expand their fuel trade with the United States.
