The striker played a crucial role in Flamengo’s historic title
Gabigol was Flamengo’s great hero in the 2019 Libertadores title, with two goals in the final. In addition to the striker, the fans remember with tenderness and humor the Argentine Lucas Prato, who is responsible for losing the ball in the first goal of Mingau in the decision against River Plate (Argentina). The 35-year-old striker could return to Brazilian football, with Vasco making an offer for the experienced player.
With a contract until the end of the year with Vélez Sarsfield (ARG), the striker is in advanced talks to terminate the contract. If he succeeds, Vasco, who has already sent an offer to the player, tries to get him at no cost. If he agrees with the Rio de Janeiro team, it will be the third Brazilian team in the curriculum of Prato, who has already worn the shirts of Atletico MG and Sao Paulo.
Plateau record in Flamengo history
Gabigol, Bruno Henrique, Arascaita, Jorge Jesus, among other names marked in Flamengo’s history by winning the Copa Libertadores title, Fila’s first after 38 years. However, two River Plate players (ARG) are remembered with “affection” and laughter by the red-blacks: Lucas Prato and Javier Pinola.
River Plate won the match, which was held in Lima, Peru, with a score of 1-0 until the last half of the match. Lucas Prato, who was wearing the Argentine national team shirt at the time, lost the ball in midfield in the 43rd minute of the second half to Arascaita. The Uruguay took off, passing to Bruno Henrique, who found Gabigol to score first. The 35-year-old forward admitted there was a flaw in the decision.
– I make mistakes just like everyone else makes mistakes. The team was tired, I lost a ball that I shouldn’t have, and I took on the responsibilities that fell on me. Like I did when I got good stuff. I was no better than everyone before, and now I’m no worse. I apologize to the fans for not winning the final, I thank the people and my teammates for their love – Prato said, in 2019, to the portal “Olé”.
Javier Pinola was another River Plate athlete who is cherished by Flamengo fans on November 23, 2019. After Diego Ribas was released, the defender partnered with Gabigol and could not avoid Mingao’s comeback goal in the Libertadores Final.
