Vasco announces Rafael Paiva as new U20 coach | Vasco

One day after William Batista was firedor Vasco Announced the appointment of Rafael Paiva as the new coach of the Under-20 team. The 39-year-old coach has already worked at the club, when he was the Carioca and Recoba Carioca Under-17 champion in 2021.

-We are very happy to have Rafael back. He is a great person and an excellent professional. It will contribute greatly to training great athletes to serve our main team, as Al Qaeda has done throughout the club's history. The heroes of the novel have good artistic quality and courage.

– Rafael has proven his experience in many leading clubs in various categories, actively participated in training high-level athletes and won national titles. He will do an excellent job with our entire team, as this class represents the final step in the process of forming the base in the transition of our athletes to our main team – highlighted Vasco Youth Football Executive Director, Rodrigo Dias.

Rafael has been at Palmeiras since 2022, where he was coach of the under-17 team and won two Brazilian Cups, two Brazilian Championships and two Brazilian Super Cups in 2022 and 2023, in addition to winning the Paulista Championship title in 2022.

– I am happy to return to Vasco, a giant club that has done a great job over the past few years at the grassroots level. Now the club is living in a new era, with appreciation for athletes and investment in infrastructure. I will be working with some athletes who were champions with me in their first stint and I look forward to helping them represent this jersey well,” said Rafael Paiva.

The new captain of Vasco's under-20 team played for the Brazilian youth team. He was Brazil's assistant coach in the U-17 World Cup held in Indonesia in November last year. The coach also played with the youth teams of Sao Paulo, Guarani and Chinese clubs Guangzhou Evergrande.
