The United States is “prepared” to respond if Iran retaliates for Israeli retaliatory bombing, according to information from a US government source who warned of possible “consequences” if Tehran acts.
“If Iran responds, the United States will be prepared and there will be consequences,” the source told KANN News. “However, we do not want that to happen; This should be the end point of a direct exchange of fire between Israel and Iran.”
In the early hours of Saturday morning, Israel launched a series of air strikes against strategic targets in Iran, killing at least two soldiers, and bombing facilities for manufacturing and launching drones and ballistic missiles, as well as air defense systems. This measure came in response to the direct Iranian attack on Israel on October 1.
Just hours after the Israeli bombing, Tehran promised to respond with a “proportionate response.” According to a US official, Israel informed Washington before carrying out the attacks, but the United States did not participate in the operation.
A senior US government employee explained: “As the Israelis stated, their response was an exercise in self-defense and specifically avoiding populated areas, focusing only on military targets, unlike the Iranian attack that targeted the most populated city in Israel.”
“The United States government was not involved in this process. Our goal is to accelerate diplomatic efforts and de-escalate tensions in the Middle East region. We urge Iran to stop its attacks on Israel so that this cycle of fighting ends without further escalation,” he added.
A senior Biden administration official confirmed that the United States is “fully prepared” to support Israel if there is a response from Iran.
