Unioeste participates in Parana Do Science in Maringa

Western Parana State University (Unioeste), participates in the First Paraná Meeting of University Museums and the First Exhibition of the University of Paraná Museums, taking place between 8 and 11 October, at the State University of Maringá (UEM), as part of the Paraná Vaz Ciencia event. Under the theme “Strategies and Innovations for Disseminating Knowledge in University Museums,” the meeting mobilized managers, researchers, professionals and students associated with university museums and provided a space for the exchange of experiences, discussion and opportunities.

During the Paraná Faz Ciência (PRFC) 2024, the University Museums will present part of the collections on the stands, providing a circuit for visitors located on the campus of the UEM headquarters. The PRFC is the largest scientific event in Paraná, linked to the National Science and Technology Week, managed by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The meeting and exhibition constitute a space for dialogue, learning and enhancement of museum spaces. Contributing to the preservation of the cultural and scientific heritage of Paraná, expanding the vision and strengthening the integration of university museums in the state, as well as providing strategies and innovations for the dissemination of knowledge.

For Unioeste Dean, Alexandre Almeida Weber, this partnership and funding are essential for the organization of all museums. “He who does not respect the past does not build the present and does not plan for the future. The Unioeste Museum, which is now entering into this partnership and becoming a visitor center for our community, will have the potential for our young people to learn many important things from the past and will certainly keep in memory those who built the history of the university,” he says. .

The Paraná Faz Ciência event, which includes the meeting and exhibition, aims to encourage the dissemination of science throughout the state, bringing together researchers, students and professionals from different fields, with the aim of disseminating knowledge and strengthening scientific, cultural and social relations.

The space emerged as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Faculty of Education, Science and Arts of Cascavel (FECIVEL)/Unist, as a way to acknowledge Mario Pereira’s contribution to the transformation of the university, featuring a collection of images, audio and documents dating back to the founding of the municipal colleges in the 1970s.

The Unioeste Museum is located on the Cascavel Campus, on the second floor of the library, and the space is named after the former federal representative and governor of Paraná, Mario Pereira, who actively and effectively represented the region’s desires for development west of Paraná. To take advantage of the atmosphere of discussions and activities of the Paraná Faz Ciência Week, the State Government, in collaboration with Unioeste and UEM, launched the new Arrangement for Research and Innovation (NAPI) – Memory and Innovation.

The new program aims to implement a platform for producing and making digital objects available, accelerating digitization processes and conducting 3D laser scanning of museum and documentation center environments.

“I received a group of teachers and researchers from our museums and especially from the documentation sectors and mentioned their importance, because we do a lot and these professionals can contribute to the structuring of science in Paraná,” comments the Secretary of Sciences of the Secretariat of Technology and Higher Education of Paraná, Aldo Nelson Bona.

Paraná State is very committed to building an environment for the popularization of science and scientific education, says Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Education Mainstreaming, Juana Nunes. “I hope that, through this work, we will inspire other countries and governments to follow our example. It is still necessary to significantly increase the resources allocated to scientific publishing and science curricula in the country.
