The Board of Directors of the Hospital da Unimede Fortaleza will hold a meeting on Friday (14) to decide whether to reopen the field hospital or whether to suspend elective surgeries due to the high demand for patients suspected of having Covid-19 in emergency situations. Network of hospitals in the capital of Ceará.
The information was conveyed by the head of Unimed, Doctor Elias Light, in a video clip that was broadcast on social media, on Thursday evening (13). “We’re going to have a meeting tomorrow to decide what we’re going to do, if we’re going to have to put elective surgery on hold, if we have to open a field hospital,” Elias Litt said.
As President of Unimed, hospital patient numbers in network units continue to rise. “This week we broke all records in emergency care in our hospital and in the virtual emergency room,” Elias said. “The numbers were also very high in the pediatric center.”
From Tuesday (11) to Thursday (13) the number of patients hospitalized for Covid at Unimed increased from 71 to 94, 23 patients. The number of people in the intensive care unit was 22 people, and in the fifth it became 25 people. The number of patients using respirators decreased from 12 to 11.
Also according to Elias Litt, as of Monday (10) Unimed had conducted more RT-PCR tests to diagnose Covid than any month in 2021 and the results were surprising to doctors, given the high rate of positives for the novel coronavirus.
“In addition to the fact that we got an increase in that amount, which is another thing that is remarkable, the positivity of tests has reached a point that we did not have yet in the epidemic. And we currently have 52% of positive tests for it,” says Elijah.
