SM Entertainment’s first boy band to debut in the UK is a five-member group formed to conquer international markets, including Europe and the United States. The group was created in collaboration between SM, the North American branch of Kakao Entertainment (Kakao Ent), and British entertainment company Moon&Back (M&B).
Moon&Back handpicked the group members directly from the UK, while SM brought their K-pop expertise in music, choreography and vocals to liven up the group.
SM and Kakao Ent plan to continue their multi-faceted collaboration, produce global local content and build networks with key partners around the world, thus accelerating their global strategy.
The growth journey of SM Entertainment’s first British boy band, set to debut in the second half of the year, will be broadcast this summer on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in a six-part TV series titled ‘Made in Korea: The K-Pop Experience’.
The TV series will show the formation process of K-pop and the journey of the British group, who spent 100 days in Seoul to improve as musicians. The SM Artist Development Center, which is responsible for selection and training, will feature the participation of the world’s best choreographers and composers.
“Creating a British boy band and bringing them to the world stage after a unique K-pop training process is a world first and not to be missed,” said Nigel Hall, co-founder of Moon&Back Media.
