The Institute of Marine Sciences (LABOMAR) of the Federal University of Ceará is holding from today (9) until next Sunday (12) the fifth week of the sea (V SEMAR) with the theme “The Decade of Youth and the Sea in the Oceans”. At the same time, today (9) and tomorrow (10), it is also promoting, through the Postgraduate Program in Tropical Oceanography (PPGCMT), the Sixth Seminar on Tropical Oceanography (VI SCMT), with the theme Marine Science: Resilience, Resilience, and Reform.

Sea Week officially opens on Thursday (9) at 5 pm in the Fortaleza Yacht Club (Vicente de Castro Street, 4813 – Cais do Porto). As part of the party, at 5:30 p.m., a party was held Presentation on theme: “Be Influential: In Networks, Business, and Life”with the guest Alex Montero, founder of the largest digital influencer agency in Latin America, Non Stop, and creator of several companies within the digital ecosystem. The event is open to the public.

Even before the opening ceremony, the V SEMAR program includes a talk “Maritime Spatial Planning: Environmental, Economic and Social Objectives for a Sustainable Marine Economy and Responsible Entrepreneurship”. The topic will be presented by Professor Ausilia Bezerra Menezes (LABOMAR/UFC), researchers Francisco Gladson da Costa Gastão (LABOMAR/UFC) and Antonio Rodrigues Zimenes Neto (Multi-User Atlantic Tropical Laboratory – LEMAE/LABOMAR/UFC); and Heyner Fortunato Costa, of the Ceará Stand Up Paddle Association (ASUP-CE), with guest debaters from various institutions. On the first day of SEMAR, the cultural moment will be marked by the performance of Dança do Coco by members of the Instituto Dr. Rock Lima.

Through an extensive free programme, V SEMAR will present to the public, during the four days, lectures with renowned professionals, as well as exhibitions that will focus on issues related to sport, the environment, history, economics, safety, science, communication and health.

Many activities that include recreation and environmental education are also part of the program, such as a sailing experience, a diving workshop, and clean-up efforts in the sands of the beach and the APA banks of the Ceará Estuary, among others. Book releases, re-releases, and technical programming are also included in the program.

At the opening ceremony of the week, which will be moderated by the director of Lapomar, A. A seminar – The Sixth Symposium on Tropical Marine Science opened Thursday morning (9) with Prof. lecture Antonio Gomez de Sousa Filho, From the Department of Physics at the UFC and Chief Scientist – who works on evaluating science and innovation actions in the Ceará State Government’s Chief Scientist Program. talk about it Postgraduate training: experiences, challenges and perspectives.

VI SCMT is a science event organized by the Postgraduate Program in Tropical Marine Science (PPGCMT) in order to offer students a range of different research activities, as well as lectures and roundtables on the most pressing issues in marine sciences. According to the organizers, the event is an important opportunity for interaction and learning for students of environmental science and oceanography courses.
