FAPESP Agency – 6th edition of the Menina Ciência project – Ciência Menina offers 128 places to students in the last years of primary school from all regions of Brazil, as well as Portuguese speakers from anywhere on the planet.
The main goal is to bring girls closer to science, especially in the field called “STEM” (an acronym for science, technology, engineering and mathematics). The goal is to strive for gender equality in academia.
The initiative includes a course in which participants interact with researchers in their fields through lectures and other scientific activities. In addition to the organizing team and speakers, undergraduate and graduate students from the Federal University of ABC (UFABC) and other Brazilian higher education institutions also participate as observers.
To participate, girls must be enrolled in the last years of Primary 2 (years 6 to 9) in public or private schools; have 30 hours available to dedicate to the project, and be required to be present at four synchronous activities offered by the Zoom platform on Saturdays, from 2pm to 3:30pm; have access to the Internet, WhatsApp, email and the Zoom platform downloaded on a cell phone or computer.

Another 50 places are available in the Basic Education Teacher Training Course. Teachers working in science, physics, biology, chemistry or mathematics (as well as those enrolled in courses in the natural sciences and exact sciences) can apply.
Candidates must have 30 hours available to devote to the project, which will include both synchronous and asynchronous activities. Synchronous sessions will take place on Saturdays and will last an average of two hours each. Teachers must also have access to the internet and Google email, as well as skills in using digital tools such as Google Classroom, Zoom, Google Meets, and WhatsApp.
