UEPB Professor Listed in Stanford University Ranking Among World Science Landmarks

With his recognized work in the field of ethnology, as a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and the Graduate Programs in Ecology and Conservation (PPGEC) and Development and Environment (PRODEMA/UFPB-UEPB) of the State University of Paraíba (UEPB), Rómulo Alves is once again part of the list of the most influential researchers in the world. This time, the list of professors highlighted in this section was prepared by Stanford University in the United States.

The study, which is published annually, presents the updated database of scientists in two classifications: one that shows the impact of the researcher throughout his career and the other that refers to the year 2023. This survey collects data on the researchers who have had the greatest impact in their research fields and ranks them based on citations, self-citations, number of published articles, co-authorship index, and citations to articles in different authorship sites.

For Professor Romulo, who has been on the list since it was first published in 2012, being ranked among the world’s most influential researchers is a source of joy and confirms the collaborative work carried out with researchers from UEPB and other partner institutions.

“Being in a ranking like this attests to the quality of what we have been producing from a scientific point of view. Given that this ranking is based on metrics that show that you are a reference for other researchers in Brazil and around the world, it is a recognition of the work we do. Which makes me happy, especially to be in the two lists that indicate impact throughout the career and production in 2023,” the researcher assesses.

Thanks to a 1C Production Grant from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and his work as one of the editors-in-chief of the journal “Ethnobiology and Conservation” (listed in Web of Science and Scopus), Professor Romulo has developed studies focused on the use and conservation of animal species, wildlife trade, ethnoecology, hunting activities and zootherapy.
