Merseyside Police have confirmed that two children were killed during an attack in Southport, a city located about 30 kilometers from Liverpool, UK, on Monday morning (29/7). A man broke into a children’s dance class and stabbed 9 people.
According to the local press, the suspect stormed a residential property where children were receiving dancing lessons to the tunes of singer Taylor Swift’s songs, at approximately 11:50 a.m. local time.
Police Commissioner Emily Spurrell confirmed the man’s arrest.
Police Chief Serena Kennedy confirmed the killing of the two children, and said that their deaths were the result of a “vicious attack.”
Serena reported that nine people were injured, six of them in serious condition. She added that two adults were also in critical condition and that all of their injuries were the result of stab wounds.
Serena Kennedy explained that the motive behind the attack has not yet been clarified, and that the investigation is currently still focusing on the basic elements.
He added: “The investigation is in its early stages and the motive behind the incident remains unclear. However, North West Counter Terrorism Police have offered their support to Merseyside Police until the full circumstances of what happened are established. The Chief Constable added: “At present, the investigation is not being dealt with. “It is related to terrorism.”
