Twitter has changed the interface of the application for iOS (Iphone) and now it “forces” users to view tweets in non-chronological order. The new For You tab displays posts randomly recommended by the platform’s algorithm.
The change created a stir on the social network, as users were uncomfortable with the new organization of tweets and reports of a large amount of spam on the timeline.
The new tab has been forced as the default view on the Twitter home screen, forcing users to switch every time they want to view only friends’ posts.
Remember, the old star button is still available on Android and Android web.
As before
Before the update, there was a shiny button at the top right of the Implementation, which allowed switching between “For You” and “Most Recent” tweets. And this information is saved to the profile by default, even if the app is closed and opened on the cell phone.
Twitter’s new approach consists of navigating through two side tabs. In them, it is possible to switch between the “For You” and “Continue” menus.
The first is similar to “For You areFrom TikTok – even the name is the same as the competing social network.
How is she now
The tab shows posts from followed accounts mixed in with those recommended by Twitter bots, just out of order. This means that something from the past week, from an unknown profile, can be shown at the top of your timeline if Twitter understands the information is relevant.
On the other hand, the Following tab only shows posts from people who have been added to the profile, the good old fashioned way.
Last month, CEO Elon Musk tweeted that the main timeline should allow for easier access between top, latest, trending, and following topics. At that time, I also mentioned that the company will make changes soon. And now updates are coming forever.
Apparently, Twitter is taking a similar path to TikTok, prioritizing its algorithmic timeline. It is not yet known if Twitter bots will perform the same process, but in the competing network, the system “learns” what the user likes and what they usually see. In doing so, it brings more suggested content in the For You feed to increase engagement of videos.
This is not the first time that Bluebird has tried to innovate in this regard. Previously, Twitter tried to implement a similar feature. It allows you to scroll between “Home” and “Recent Tweets” to switch between views. But a barrage of disapproval from netizens made the company back down.
Users did not like it
“I don’t want to see your algorithm choices! We went through this a year ago! The ‘else’ being there at startup is one of the reasons I keep going to Twitter over Instagram or other social media. Thanks for the alerts,” one user commented in response. on Twitter.
Another profile explained: “The ‘For You’ tab of the feed provides 75% more spam, in other words, I see tweets from people I don’t care about and don’t follow.”
And there are many people asking to go back to the previous model: “It’s awful, put it back as it was, chronological. I don’t need Twitter to decide how I see tweets”
And of course the memes can’t be missing. One user posted: “Why do they keep complicating Twitter? What is this “For you” tab?” — along with a photo of the angry Squidward character.
Another simply used a snippet from a video of actor Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) to give his take on the new feature.
Twitter For You section: [fala: É um grande cocô de cachorro].
Once again, Bob Esponja is used to express, in a fun way, his disappointment with the manual imposed on the app’s home screen. “Twitter now has a page for you” – followed by a video showing each character leaving the scene.
