The Donald Trump campaign The United States has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on Tuesday (22).Allegations of foreign interference in the presidential election to be held on November 5.
The targets of the allegations are the UK Labor Party campaign led by incumbent Deputy Leader and Democrat candidate Kamala Harris and Prime Minister Keir Starmer. According to Trump’s team, the Labor Party is providing illegal support to Harris’ candidacy, which, according to Republicans, violates US election laws. Prohibition of foreign contributions to political campaigns.
According to a statement posted on the Trump campaign website“The Harris campaign is seeking foreign influence to promote its radical message because it knows it cannot win the support of the American public.” Trump’s team blames Kamala’s “dangerously progressive” policies on the Labor Party, described as “extreme left”.
Trump’s accusations came after he later deleted a LinkedIn post by Sofia Patel, the operations leader of the British Labor Party. In the brochure attached to the complaint, Patel noted that he had sent about 100 members of the Labor Party to the United States to “assist” the Democratic campaign in key states such as North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia. According to the post, there are still “10 spots available” for anyone interested in joining a campaign group in North Carolina, with housing offered, though it was not specified who would pay for that housing.
“I have almost 100 Labor Party officials (current and former) going to the US in the coming weeks, going to North Carolina, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Virginia. I’ve got 10 places for everyone who can make it to the key state of North Carolina – and we’ll take care of your accommodations. Email me at [email protected] if you are interested. Thank you!” That’s what the text of the post says.
In response to these allegations, British Labor Party sources said: BBC Its members operate on an “individual” basis in the United States and travel and lodging expenses are financed by individuals, according to the British broadcaster, while US law does not prevent foreign aid in campaigns, as long as they are not paid.
However, Trump’s team has suggested that Starmer’s party could co-finance its members’ participation in Kamala’s campaign, which Republicans say would violate US election foreign contribution laws.
In its complaint, the Trump campaign cited a recent meeting between senior Labor officials and Harris team members, including Morgan McSweeney, the UK prime minister’s chief of staff, and Deborah Mattinson, Starmer’s strategy director. According to the complaint, these meetings indicate close cooperation with Kamala influencing her campaign strategy.
“The Harris campaign’s acceptance and use of this illegal foreign aid is another flimsy attempt at anti-American election interference,” said Susie Wiles, Trump’s co-campaign manager. “In two weeks, Americans will once again reject the big government oppression we rejected in 1776,” he said.
A formal complaint filed by the Trump campaign calls for an urgent investigation into what it considers “clear violations of US election laws.” The UK Labor Party is yet to issue an official statement on the allegations.
