The Volvo EM90 is the Nordic brand’s first all-electric luxury MPV to be introduced in Europe. According to the Scandinavian manufacturer, the minibus is designed to be able to make the most of the time you spend in the car, like a Scandinavian living room on the go.
Volvo says the new EM90 not only allows you to travel from point A to point B, but also makes room for your life in a car with plenty of interior space, connectivity and amenities to be an area for rest, work and leisure.
Technologically, what is expected of the EM90 is that it has systems such as LiDAR laser radar, an element already part of the EX90 project that will greatly expand Pilot Assist’s semi-autonomous driving.
We also expect a real curtain of integrated airbags, which cushion the environment in the event of a rollover with automatic SIPS belts that latch on to the occupants in this case.
However, despite all the sophistication, which should include roof screens for infotainment, reclining seats with swivel legrests, panoramic roof with photochromia, intelligent climate control and a 4D effect sound system, the EM90 should not be sold in Europe. At least not across the European bloc.
The reason is that Volvo is focusing on SUVs in certain regions, such as the UK, and the production of the EM90 will be exclusively Chinese and the product is actually made to serve the consumer in that country.
It is known that the basis for the EM90 project is the Geely Zeker 009 luxury car, which gives the platform and possibly the bodywork to the Volvo SUV.
The Zeekr 009 has up to 544 hp and uses 116 or 140 kWh batteries integrated into Geely-Volvo’s SEA1 platform.
Here, we should not wait for this Volvo product, which will truly be something unprecedented in the history of the Scandinavian manufacturer.
