Sao Paulo, May 3 – U.S. exporters sold 185,800 tonnes of maize from the 2021/22 crop for the week ended May 26, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in its weekly report on Friday. The volume is 23% higher than what was traded in the previous week, but 52% lower than the average for the previous four weeks.
During the week, the main buyers were Saudi Arabia (74.8 thousand tonnes), Japan (70.2 thousand tonnes), South Korea (65.5 thousand tonnes), China (62.8 thousand tonnes) and Mexico (59, 3 thousand tonnes). Cancellations made mainly by unpublished places (284.9 thousand tons).
For the 2022/23 harvest, 48.7 thousand tons were sold. Major buyers were Colombia (30,000 tons), Honduras (8.7 thousand tons), Guatemala (7 thousand tons) and unpublished places (3 thousand tons).
The result of the sum of the two crops came within the estimate of the consultants Dow Jones NewswireExpect volumes ranging from 225 thousand tons to 700 thousand tons per week.
Exports during the period totaled 1.579 million tonnes. The results represent a 13% drop compared to the previous week and a 4% drop compared to the average of the previous four weeks. Major destinations are Mexico (288.6 thousand tons), Japan (283.1 thousand tons), China (268.8 thousand tons), Colombia (162.8 thousand tons) and South Korea (131.5 thousand tons).
