WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Trade Representative’s Office on Wednesday revised 352 “Section 301” U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports, down from the 549 exceptions it had previously considered.

The re-established exemptions will take effect from October 12, 2021 and will be extended until December 31, 2022, the USTR said. They are the largest of the $ 370 billion initially estimated of Chinese imports, which former President Donald Trump struck with fines ranging from 7.5% to 25%.

The list published by USTR includes industrial components such as electric pumps and motors, some auto parts and chemicals, backpacks, bicycles, vacuum cleaners and other consumer goods.

A spokesman for China’s Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday that the US decision to normalize the trade flow of these products was useful and hoped that bilateral trade relations would return to normal.

“Amid rising inflation and challenges to the global economic recovery, we hope the United States will soon remove all taxes on Chinese goods for the fundamental benefit of consumers and manufacturers in China and the United States,” spokesman Xu Jutting told reporters. .
