The UK government is considering confiscating frozen Russian assets without legal backing

Sputnik – British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has not ruled out confiscating frozen assets of Russian citizens in the UK and transferring them to Ukraine.

This Sunday (3) protected action is not based on current law.

“I support the concept. We’re looking at it very closely. In fact, Canadians have just passed legislation. It’s an issue we’re working with the Home Office and the Treasury, but I certainly agree with that concept. Get the specifics right,” Truss told MPs last week, The The Guardian detailed it on Sunday.

The Foreign Secretary noted that some legislation would “probably” be passed to allow the UK government to seize frozen Russian assets, but not necessarily.

Truss expressed support for the idea that funds could be redistributed to Ukrainians badly affected by Russia’s special military operation.
