Nuclear fusion, green hydrogen, solar energy and wind energy are on the agenda of the thematic meeting on renewable energy scheduled for the 22nd of this month, in the Valder Diogo Hall of the Federation of Industries of the State of Ceara (Fiec).. This meeting is one of the preparatory stages for the summit Fifth National Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation (CNCTI)promoted by the Federal Government, which will take place from June 4 to 6 in Brasília-DF.
Professor Ennio Pontes, from the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering at the Technology Center of the Federal University of Ceara (UFC), is coordinating the thematic meeting. In addition to the UFC, the Cearense Foundation for Support of Scientific and Technological Development (Funcap) and Fiec are part of organizing the event, along with the Center for Administrative and Strategic Studies (GCEE) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. (MCTI).
The meeting will be scheduled in person Open for virtual participation from interested parties from all over Brazil. Registration can be done via the electronic form. The streaming link will be released to subscribers soon. The main objective of the thematic meetings, held since November 2023 in several states in Brazil, is to generate inputs on specific topics for discussions scheduled at state and regional conferences. The outcomes of these meetings will feed into the Fifth CNCTI Congress, the main theme of which is: Science, technology and innovation for a just, sustainable and advanced Brazil.
Representatives of public and private sector institutions, third sector institutions and other interested parties will participate in the discussions to propose innovative solutions in the areas of nuclear fusion, green hydrogen, solar energy and wind energy, which are the topics of the four scheduled agendas. Finally, a report will be prepared to be published and referred to the National Conference Proposals for developing policies and strategies aimed at promoting renewable energy in Brazil.
Among the participants, the Executive Secretary of CNCTI, former Minister of Science and Technology, Sergio Rezende, and President of CGEE, Fernando Rizo, are confirmed to attend.

He is also a member, together with Professor Antonio Gomez, from the Department of Physics at UFC, on the Advisory Board of this conference.
The UFC also has representatives in the thematic discussions on renewable energy professors José de Paula Barros Neto, of CT's Department of Structural Engineering and Civil Construction and current Vice Dean of the University for Inter-Institutional Relations (Prointer); and Fernando Antunes, from the Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE) and senior scientist in renewable energy.
For Professor Ennio Pontes, the UFC's involvement in this whole process is extremely important.
“UFC, recognized for its academic excellence and cutting-edge research, brings with it extensive knowledge and experience in the field of renewable energy, especially given the context of the state of Ceará, which is characterized by natural resources for clean energy generation,” highlights Ennio Pontes.
The professor adds that the UFC has the opportunity not only to share its discoveries and scientific advances, but also to collaborate with other experts, researchers and institutions, strengthen collaboration networks and expand the impact of its contributions. “In addition to, UFC's presence at these conferences helps highlight the essential role of public universities in developing innovative and sustainable solutions to the challenges facing society, especially with regard to energy and environmental issues.“, Highlights.
