The U.S. stand at Explorer opened to mark 200 years of diplomatic relations with Brazil

200 years of diplomatic relations between Brazil and the United States of America (USA) marked the beginning of the US position on the 47th exponent. The space was opened in the presence of Nelson Wu, Acting Consul General of the Consulate General in Porto Alegre, and other officials at a ceremony held at the International Pavilion of the Assisi Brazil Exhibition Park on Sunday afternoon.

In his speech, the Consul General thanked the state government and expressed his solidarity with the people of Rio Grande do Sul who were affected by the floods in May. “My thoughts and heart go out to everyone affected by this tragedy. Although the last few months have been difficult for the state, it has been a privilege to see the resilience of the people of Rio Grande do Sul,” Wu said.

In addition to celebrating 200 years of diplomatic relations, US participation in EXPONDER aims to highlight the role of agricultural biotechnology in mitigating climate change. “This year, I believe it is right that the focus of our presence at Expopointer is biotechnology in agriculture and its role in creating a more resilient and sustainable future,” he pointed out.

On August 27 and 29, experts from the Embassy’s Economic Division will participate in a dialogue on how agricultural biotechnology can contribute to the recovery and rehabilitation of flood-affected areas in RS, improving soil fertility and agricultural productivity.

Wu highlights that this view is due to the fact that the two countries are the first and second largest global producers of biotech crops and are two powerful agricultural producers. “The United States and Brazil are strong partners in biotechnology and in ensuring global food security,” he said.
