Queen Elizabeth II will permanently leave Buckingham Palace as her official residence. Windsor Castle should be the home of the King of England for the next few years and, according to the Daily Mail, her desire is not to return to central London, where Buckingham is, and to stay permanently in the county of Berkshire, where the castle is located.
Berkshire County is a place full of history and memories for the Queen, as she must continue to work according to her official schedule, as well as where she must receive her family members.
The truth is that since March 2020, when the UK ramped up health standards due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Queen and her husband Prince Philip, who died in April 2021, have moved to Windsor to begin the quarantine. Two years later, as health regulations eased in the UK, the Queen decided she would not return to Buckingham Palace, which has been the seat of the British monarchy since 1837.

Prince Philip died in Windsor, and his remains are also buried in the Royal Vault of St George’s Chapel. The parents of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother and King George VI are also buried in this chapel.
Additionally, Windsor is near the home of two of Elizabeth’s four children, Princes Andrew and Edward.
With the change, royal experts analyze that some adjustments will be necessary in the monarch’s routine. That is because the official meetings at which she received heads of state had to move to Windsor. Remember that Buckingham is located in the center of London, attracting thousands of people every day to visit and is one of the most popular tourist sites in the UK.
