The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of the Government of Pernambuco has stopped donating land to branch out submarine cable and the establishment of the Pernambuco data center. The decision was posted last Thursday 15.
It is an offshoot of Seabras-1 cable, from Seaborn Networks, which is leased by the combined businessmen of the Recife Co. consortium. The intent was to establish a direct route of communication with the United States and it was believed that this action would be beneficial to the entire capital.
Meanwhile, there was a project to build Data Center🇧🇷 Both the cable and the new project will be located in the Espaço Ciência area, a science museum located between Recife and Olinda.
The expansion of submarine cables has had major repercussions
Until then, although there was no secrecy, there was also no public knowledge of what was going on. The government of Pernambuco ceded the land and the Recife company quickly requested the urgent removal of all equipment from the site.
After the land donation was put on hold, the government said it would wait for the state’s office of accountants to give its opinion on the matter. On Friday the 16th, the foundation launched a special audit to find out the situation.
This entire technology project originated from an initiative between the Government of Pernambuco, the Recife City Council and the Recife company, Seaborn’s technology partner.
Espaço Ciência is not satisfied at all
A hearing in the Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco brought together all parties to the case. Espaço Ciência said no one is interested in seeing a museum defaced or mutilated.
The Recife company, which represents the other party in the case, said there was no intent to discredit the museum and that the accusations made by the Espaço Ciência company are sensational.
The political issues intensify when understanding why this site was chosen. The government participates in this project only by donating the space. Previously, the goal was to use a marine area on the border between Olinda and Recife.
However, according to the Teletime website, this proposal has not moved forward due to disputes between the state government and the federal government.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Pernambuco is assessing the situation in a civil investigation. The foundation says there is no clarity as to what they want to do in Espaço Ciência. The case is being investigated and there will be a hearing on the 23rd.
