Ghost town is not the only one in China

The situation of ghost towns is not uncommon in China. According to Architectural Digest, there are about 65 million abandoned homes in the country. The real estate boom that has driven China’s economy for years has been battered by an aging population and rising construction costs, forcing entire cities to be evacuated.

Since 2020, the Chinese government, led by Xi Jinping, has taken measures to curb excessive borrowing and real estate speculation, which has led construction companies to abandon projects due to debt.
