The Russian military announced that four Russian missiles heading for Kiev had been shot down

“DrAccording to preliminary information, at approximately 04:00 (02:00 in Lisbon), Russia began a “missile attack on the Kiev region,” the Ukrainian Air Force said on the social network Telegram.

He continued: “In total, the air defense destroyed eight air targets flying towards the capital on a ballistic trajectory.”

The military administration in Kiev said that fragments of the missile fell in the Darnitsky district, southeast of the capital.

He added on the same social network that four residents were treated by emergency services, one of whom was injured by shrapnel.

“A missile fragment damaged a building under construction in the Darnitsky district,” Kiev Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said on Telegram, sparking a fire that was quickly extinguished, while another fragment fell on the grass.

The Ukrainian authorities accused Russia of preparing a campaign of systematic attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure in the middle of winter, as happened last year.

During the winter of 2022, millions of people were left without electricity for long periods, amid a cold wave, due to these attacks.

Kiev has since bolstered its air defense systems with Western weapons, but said it needed more to protect vulnerable areas.
