The pixel rules change as of November

Starting November 1, Pix will have stricter rules to ensure transaction security and prevent fraud. Transfers worth more than R$200 can only be made from a phone or computer that has been previously registered by the financial institution’s customer, with a daily limit of R$1,000 for unregistered devices..

The Central Bank (BC) clarifies that the registration requirements will only apply to mobile phones and computers that have never been used to make Pix. For current devices, nothing will change.

In addition to this new feature, financial institutions will have to improve security technologies. They must adopt fraud management solutions capable of identifying unconventional Pix transactions or those inconsistent with the customer profile, based on security information stored at the central bank.

Organizations will also have to inform customers, via a widely accessible electronic channel, of precautions to avoid fraud. They must also check, at least every six months, whether customers have signs of fraud in the central bank’s systems.

BC informed that these measures will allow financial institutions to take specific actions in the event of suspicious transactions or transactions outside the customer’s profile. It may increase the time for suspicious clients to initiate transactions and block incoming Pix with caution. In the event of strong suspicion or proof of fraud, organizations may terminate the relationship with the customer.
