Months after Dragon’s Dogma 2 debuted, Capcom released an update in September of this year that significantly reduced the CPU load used by the game. While the decision did not solve all of the adventure’s problems, It made the experience more enjoyable for a lot of peopleEspecially when visiting big cities.
In an interview with Famitsu, the company’s developers finally explained what they tweaked so the game could work better. According to them, the RPG’s NPCs were “overthinking” their daily paths and behaviors, which was leading to excessive resource consumption.
Capcom claims that in Dragon’s Dogma 2, CPU resources are allocated to both NPC behaviors and character physics simulations. Precisely for this reason, the more of them there are on the screen, the more complicated it becomes to obtain stable and large performance.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 will still be subject to modifications
The development team responsible for the game also stated that the game should undergo new modifications to ensure better performance. According to them, the intention is “Reframe” how NPC thoughts are processedand even achieve it in a different order.
Previously, rumors suggested that Dragon’s Dogma 2’s problems were related to the item manipulation distance, which was too large. Although the patch was released in September, the title is still the target of criticism from players on Steam, who have reported numerous crashes and difficulties in getting it to run well.
On PC, the game received its latest update on October 16, which only modified some elements of its options screens. Now, whoever enters them will find the “Graphics Priority” and “Performance Priority” fields, which promise to make automatic adjustments that ensure the adventure behaves closer to what each player wants.
