Halo 5: Guardians was officially released in October 2015 on Xbox, but did not receive a native port to PC. Now, ten years later, a former developer reveals that a release would have been considered, but ended up being canceled due to technical issues. He also adds that he cannot imagine the port one day happening.
The information came in a conversation on Twitter. Tyler Owens, who is currently working on Apex Legends, was part of the Halo 5 development team, and in a post celebrating the game’s anniversary, one player responded to him saying he would like to see a “true PC port.”
Owens then He replied“I really wanted to, but it will never happen in my opinion. I think the port that was under consideration encountered major technical obstacles, and it was cancelled.”
Unfortunately, the previous Halo 5 developer did not provide any details about these technical issues. Twitter topic and website Taketown Remember, there was speculation at the time about the game’s physics, which would be tied to the frame rate and this would make a difficult port. However, neither Microsoft nor 343 Industries have confirmed the reasons.
Halo turns 25 years old in 2026
Halo 5 was the last major release in the main franchise before Halo Infinite, which arrived in 2021. Since the last game did not reach the same level of success as previous titles, many players are missing Guardians.
If Owens’ information is correct, it seems that hoping for an unreleased title is easier than hoping for a Halo 5 release on PC. The series will turn 25 in 2026 and Microsoft is already talking about its plans to celebrate the anniversary.
More about Halo:
While the producer has yet to publicly comment on the possibility of a sequel, it seems like a good time to try. The most important thing to remember is that in 2026 we will already have comments about the arrival of a new generation of consoles.
