The continuation of the project focusing on early childhood was approved in the latest notification of the Mais Ciência programme, developed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (Seduct). The project began in Mais Ciência in 2022, with a research-based diagnosis that included several actions, including listening to children, as well as discussing data collected from the community. Last year, actions focused on building indicators and action proposals to form the Municipal Plan for Early Childhood (PMPI). (Read more below)
The PMPI will be submitted on the 28th of this month to the Municipal Council for the Promotion of the Rights of Children and Adolescents (CMPDCA). The plan is a technical and political document resulting from the mobilization and participation of various social actors who work with children, especially in the age group from 0 to 6 years, says project coordinator Beatriz Corsino Pérez. She explains that the focus on early childhood stems from the necessity of progress in the field of public policies, towards promoting and guaranteeing the rights of these children, in light of the context of the absence of this segment in various fields (read more below). )
Beatrice further explains that the research emerged in 2022 as a result of the dialogue between the Federal University of Fluminense (UFF) and the CMPDCA. To develop the plan, an early childhood condition had to be diagnosed, and Campos didn’t have that material yet. The diagnosis was not only a quantitative part with data, but also involved the children’s participation in its preparation (read more below).
“So, based on this request, we created a research project, obtained funding from the Carlos Chagas Filho Foundation to Support Research in the State of Rio de Janeiro (Faperj), and also looked for partners, so that we could obtain scholarship students. In this context, it emerged Partnership with the Mais Ciência programme, which started in 2022. We registered for the programme, the project received the grant, and it was very important that the students could devote themselves (read more below).
The group heard from three schools. “The students were there thinking about the methodology, participating in workshops with the children, then organizing quantitative and qualitative data, and producing analyzes of all this material. They were involved in all stages of the research. Having this interface with the Mais Ciência program was very important, because it made this partnership between The University, the Foundation and the Children and Adolescents Council are official and have allowed us to obtain resources from the bench fee so that we can develop activities (read more below),” explained Beatrice.
Regina Lanis, a member of Seduct’s early childhood education coordination team, says she was part of developing the plan, in which hundreds of children were heard. She also says it was very important work, because it gave young people a voice and voice (read more below).
“Since I already work in this aspect, it was a great satisfaction for me to join the committee preparing the PMPI, which aims to promote public policies targeting children aged 0 to 6 years. Topics such as education, health, social assistance, culture and urban mobility influence And many other aspects of early childhood life “We need to appreciate the needs of our young citizens,” Regina said (read more below).
Seduct shared suggestions through reflection and discussion in school units and sent proposals for goals and actions using a participatory methodology. “I emphasize that the document has been prepared taking into account all children in the municipality as students, normal and atypical children, of any social class or gender, at risk or not. “Having the plan in place is an accomplishment for our children,” Regina said (read more below).
MAIS CIÊNCIA – Seduct Programs and Partnerships Manager and Mais Ciência Program Coordinator, Leonora Tinoco, highlighted the importance of this approach with the universities offered by the program providing very satisfactory results (read more below).
“I am very happy to see the fruits of Mais Ciência. There are many projects working in different sectors of the City Hall with topics of interest to the municipality. The goal of Mais Ciência is to support university students, by awarding scholarships and seat fees, to develop projects of interest to departments, assistant secretaries and other bodies of the City Hall. The program aims to stimulate the scientific and extension profession, train new researchers in higher education institutions, and clarify research and activities with the necessary requirements for the process of social and economic development in the municipality.
