The attack destroyed an Iranian building in Damascus on Monday (1). According to Iranian state media, the bombing by Israeli military aircraft killed Mohammad Reza Zahedi, the senior commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and six other people.

According to Tasnim, President Raisi issued a statement on Tuesday in which he condemned the attack and described the case as an “aggressive and desperate act.”

The president also stated that the Israeli action violates international rules. Although it confirmed that the attack would not go unanswered, the Iranian government did not mention the measures that would be taken.

Hossein Akbari, Iran's ambassador to Syria, said the consulate was hit by six missiles fired from F-35 fighter jets. Akbari, who was living in the embassy annex and whose home was bombed, escaped unharmed and said Iran's response would be harsh.

The New York Times reported that it spoke with four Israeli officials, who confirmed that Israel had indeed carried out the attack.

An Israeli military spokesman said he would not comment on the reports published by foreign media.
