After training yesterday afternoon, the second session was held at the PUC Sports Complex, Inter’s third vice president, Victor Gromberg, gave an interview in which he assessed the damage caused by the Guaíba floods at CT Parque Gigante and the Beira-Rio stadium. He estimated the amount that would be consumed in renovating the two buildings at 35 million Brazilian reals, but he confirmed that the stadium was insured and that Brio, the club’s partner in managing the stadium, would have to share the costs.
“CT Parque Gigante has been under water for ten days. We will only be able to gauge the extent of the damage when the water recedes, but our losses have been many. The fields, for example, will have to be completely rebuilt,” Gromberg said, noting that many have been saved. CT equipment thanks to the efforts of some employees, but others, such as those in the gym, were completely lost. The site remains submerged.
On the field, where water reached the second row of seats in the lower stands, the damage was equally extensive. Many administrative areas will have to be refurbished, as well as electrical structures and furniture. The manager explained that it may be possible to return to playing on the field in about two months, more or less. “The grass has held up relatively well, but we missed planting the winter grass, which was done a few days ago. We will have to replant it, which will take about 45 or 60 days.”
Gromberg confirmed that all this information was conveyed in recent days to President Alessandro Barcelos and the football administration. Based on these expectations, the club will develop its plans for the coming months.
