Australian rock band Jet have announced their first tour of the UK and Ireland in 15 years, without releasing their first album in more than a decade.
Formed in Melbourne in 2001, the four-piece band have not toured the UK since 2009 and have performed mainly in their home country and New Zealand since.
However, the band have booked a series of concerts in the UK and Ireland for October this year, where they will perform at the most popular venues in both countries.
And they will He participated in nostalgia shows from the 1990s and 2000s, and returned to tour the UK a few years later.
The tour will kick off with a show at the Academy in Dublin on October 3 and head north to the Telegraph venue in Belfast on October 4.
They will then cross the Irish Sea to play SWG3 Galvanizers Yard in Glasgow on October 6, before kicking off a run of five shows in the UK.
Birmingham will be the first stop, with a match taking place at the O2 Institute on October 7. The Manchester show is scheduled to take place at the O2 Ritz on October 8th.
A two-day break will give the band time to travel to Nottingham, where they will play the city’s iconic Rock City Theater on October 10.
They will be hosted by Bristol Marble Factory on October 11, and the tour will end with a final show at London’s Kentish Town Forum on October 12.
In 2003, Jet achieved global success when his single Are You Gonna Be My Girl charted in the United Kingdom and the United States, going platinum and gold in those countries respectively.
After his debut, his moderate success continued into the late 2000s. Their second album, Shine On, was certified gold in the United Kingdom in 2006, and their third album, Shaka Rock, was certified platinum in Australia.
However, the band has the dubious honor of being one of the few bands to receive a 0.0 out of 10 album review score from major music publication Pitchfork.
Shine On was harshly received by the magazine, which instead of publishing a standard review included a YouTube video of a monkey urinating in its mouth.
Despite the negativity directed at them by critics, the band continued to enjoy moderate success into the late 2000s, especially in their home country, where their songs were regularly charted, until their hiatus in 2012.
The band’s lead singer, Nicholas Custer, subsequently spent several years in Italy, and the band occasionally reunited to perform on both sides of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although it disbanded before Spotify became the dominant force in streaming, Jet still has nearly six million monthly listeners on the platform.
“Are You Gonna Be My Girl” currently has over 600 million streams, while other songs like Look What You Done have also been streamed nearly 100 million times during this period.
