Luciana Santos, confirmed Thursday by the president-elect, wants to replace inflation for researchers, with scholarships frozen since 2013.
Brasília – future Minister of Science and Technology, Luciana Santos🇧🇷 announced on Thursday, 22, wants to compensate for the inflationary losses of public grants for scientific research, frozen since 2013. Master’s students receive 1.5 thousand reais. PhD students 2.2 thousand Brazilian reals.
Total reconfiguration for the period would increase by about 70% the amounts paid today to researchers with grants from the Coordination of Higher Education Personnel Improvement (Capes) and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).
The readjustment, according to the future minister in Lula’s government, depends on the conditions of the budget, but it is one of the issues that she considers urgent at the top of the bag to make the research viable.
“We have as a reference the inflationary adjustment for the entire period, but these are decisions that will be placed in the global context of the budget,” he said.
Luciana Santos, Chair of the PCdoB and Deputy Governor of Pernambuco, said her main challenge in the ministry will be to “restore the strength of the national system of science and technology” because it has been “destroyed and dismantled” in the past four years.
