Former Cruzeiro youth midfielder Robson Matheus reports a yellow card showing for Always Ready from Bolivia, in a match against Defensa y Justicia in the Copa Sudamericana. The player went to the microphones on Tuesday (9) to reveal the content of the call from Paraguay. The Bolivian club's board of directors supported the player.
“Something bad happened. I received a call. First, they offered me $5,000 for a yellow card in the match against Defensa e Justicia. I said no, this was not in my character and that I was just starting out in football. When I refused, they offered “I owed $10,000, and I said no again. I play football because I love it, not for the money.”
Always Ready is in Group A of the Copa Sudamericana, which does not contain any Brazilians. The group consists of Always Ready from Bolivia, Defensa y Justicia from Argentina, Cesar Vallejo from Peru, and Independiente Medellin from Colombia. Currently, Bolivians and Argentines are competing for leadership.
Robson Matthews played for Cruzeiro's youth team in 2021 and 2022. At the time, the midfielder was number 10 in the Bolivian Under-20 team and was one of the team's standout players. In 2022, the youngster left Raposa to move to Ibracina, the youth team of São Paulo. Before playing football in Minas Gerais, he played for Palmeiras.
