The test of the fifth 100% electric bus begins in Curitiba next Monday (04). The car that came from Sweden is from Volvo and will be traded on the Interbairros 2 and Inter II lines. The Volvo BZL can seat 90 passengers and measures 12 meters by 60 centimeters.

Developed in partnership with teams from Brazil and Sweden, the car has two doors and a low floor. The chassis is from Marco Polo and the battery has a range of 250 to 300 km. Charging time is from two to four hours. For this reason, the car will be charged at night, in the Sorriso operator’s garage. The bus is also equipped with a system that automatically reduces speed near areas with high traffic of people, such as stations, schools and hospitals, for example.

In all, nine vehicles from six automakers must be tested in Curitiba. The top four were from Chinese automakers. According to Orbis President, Eugenie Pedro Maia Neto, the tests aim to assess which model is best for the capital.

The tests will continue until October this year. The goal is for 30% of Curitiba’s bus fleet to be emission-free by 2030, a percentage that should reach 100% by 2050. The city council expects to purchase 70 vehicles to replenish part of the fleet from June of the year in which it comes. According to the deputy mayor of the capital, Eduardo Pimentel, it is likely that the buses purchased for the next year will be from more than one car manufacturer.
