a apple AirTag has been widely discussed due to its tracking functionality that allows people to easily identify their belongings such as luggage, pets, and valuables.
Only this time, its usefulness surprised again, when a recent case revealed that Apple’s AirTag was used to help a family catch thieves who were stealing items from a loved one’s grave.
The city of Houston, Texas, has had an alarming problem with frequent cemetery burglaries, which is putting significant stress on the affected families.
AirTag helped locate grave robbers
According to the local news site Click2houstonBrazoria County, where Houston is located, has seen hundreds of grave robberies, resulting in tens of thousands of dollars in damage to bronze vessels.
Target thieves Valuable thingslike vases, and to give you an idea of the seriousness of the situation, some criminals actually went to extremes in digging graves.
In the Restwood Memorial Park In Clute, Texas, cemeteries have been constantly targeted by looters. On one occasion, a $600 bronze memorial vase, which had been carefully placed in the grave as a tribute, was stolen by criminals.
Determined to catch the perpetrators involved, the family behind this tomb decided to take a technological approach, discreetly hiding the AirTag inside the vase.
Again, the vase was stolen, but this time those in charge of the tomb passed the coordinates on to the police.
Using this data, authorities were able to trace not only the vase, but many other stolen items, to a home about 45 minutes from the cemetery.
Arriving at the scene, the police found that, in general, the criminals managed to steal about 102 valuable vases from several different tombs.
This collaboration between technology and law enforcement demonstrates how effective features like AirTag can be in locating and recovering stolen items, contributing to law enforcement and security, which has happened before.
In addition to this incident, the device has been recognized for its contribution to catching thieves on other types of occasions.
In Texas, for example, a restaurant was able to locate a 6-foot-tall, 150-pound bull statue thanks to an AirTag attached to it.
In another impressive incident, AirTag prevented the theft of an armored truck worth $1.1 million.
These examples highlight the effectiveness and versatility of this technological device in recovering stolen items and enhancing security.
