Paraná witnessed two intense days of a lot of science and technology. Researchers, students, public authorities and the third sector gathered at the Fifth National Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation on April 3-4 at the Technological University of Paraná. Under the slogan “Justice, Sustainability and Development,” the conference proposes citizens’ participation in discussions to formulate public policies in the scientific and technological sector that promote democracy and sustainable social and economic development. The discussions are divided into seven working groups, or GTs, which formulate scenarios on the issues to be discussed.
Communications Advisor at the Western Paraná State University, Roseline de Fátima Fontana, is the director of GT1, which discusses “the challenges of financing and managing research and innovation to promote equity, sustainability and development.” Rosceline comments:

In addition to the working groups, the event program includes cultural performances, the launch of the book “Patent Law in University Research,” and panel discussions and lectures on science, technology and innovation. On the second day, the proposals identified by each working group were presented in plenary sessions.
The aim is to take these proposals to the regional conference that will be held on April 25-26, also in Curitiba. These two events are part of the 5th National Science, Technology and Innovation Conference, which will be held from June 4 to 6, 2024 in Brasilia. This conference will analyze the national strategic programs and plans, and propose recommendations that will be implemented in the long term by the science, technology and innovation sector.
Event host and UTFPR President Markus Scheffler highlights the difference an event like this makes for university students.
