The “disturbing” noise makes the cleaner’s hygiene ruined with 25 years of research causing R$6 million in damage

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York has filed a lawsuit against a cleaning company after an employee destroyed a 25-year-old survey, according to The Sun. The janitor, exasperated by the sound of one of the lab’s equipment, had shut down the freezer that held cell cultures and other samples for studies.

The freezer operates at a constant temperature of minus 45 degrees Celsius. When it was turned off, it dropped to minus 4 degrees Celsius, destroying all material stored for years and causing a loss of just over R$6 million.

Rensselaer, which was founded in 1824 and is considered the first technological research university in the United States, is suing the company that hired the cleaner.

According to The Sun, there was a sign in the fridge explaining how to turn off the whistle without affecting the appliance, but it was ignored.

“At the end of the questioning, he (the cleaner) still didn’t think he did anything wrong, but was just trying to help,” said the attorney representing the institute, Michael Ginsburg, who was heard by the website.
