In case you didn’t already know, The Last of Us Part 2 will be getting a remaster which, in addition to other new features, will include something called “Lost Levels.”
Now, The Last of Us series co-creator and TV adaptation producer – Neil Druckmann – has explained in an interview the idea behind “Lost Levels” in the remaster of The Last of Us Part 2, adding that one of the cut sequences could be used in an HBO production.
“Lost Levels is primarily intended to provide a behind-the-scenes look at the production of the game,” the developer explains in an email sent to . Entertainment Weekly.
“Think of them as scenes left on the cutting room floor that, for one reason or another, didn’t make it into the final game. This is a new way for us to uncover the mystery of the game development process, and I hope players will appreciate the opportunity to see what didn’t make it into the final product.”
Therefore, the missing levels are not fully completed, but will come with interactive elements and feedback from the producer. Druckmann explains how players will be able to listen to the creative team as they find out “the purpose of the level, what was happening in the sequence, and ultimately why it was cut.”
One example he gives is “an extended party scene in Jackson that provides more insight into Ellie’s life in the city.”
In addition to Lost Levels, this remaster features new outfits, the ability to play the guitar, or a new roguelike mode. The game is coming January 19 on PS5.
