The partnership between a blind dog and a cat that helps him get around the house through a meow has attracted residents of Vermont in the northeastern United States.
The dog Blaze lost his sight in 2020, but his feline sister Satin is helping him get around, according to the South West News Service.
Her owner, Robin Wagner, 28, adopted Blaze in 2019. When taking the dog to the vet, she discovered that he was blind in one eye and would eventually lose his sight in the other over time.
Although surgery was recommended, the animal’s right eye was removed and vision in the left eye was completely lost.
The Satin Cat actually lived with Wagner in Burlington and welcomed Blaise warmly. Both form an inextricable bond, even if the dog often tramples the cats because they can’t see.
“Satine loves to rub himself with his long legs, just as a cat would on a table or chair,” Wagner told SWNS about the pets’ early days together. “Since Blaze lost her sight, she was trampled a lot.”
To help her brother, Satin learns a surprising trick: she beckons Blaze to tell him his whereabouts. So, the dog began to understand whether he would step on her or not.
As the days passed, the cat also used its meow to prevent Blaze from hitting walls or furniture.
“She would meow every time he walked. She would meow and he would stop and re-orientate himself,” Wagner explained, noting that this made the pets get closer.
“Although she’s not the most adorable and cuddly cat with us, she definitely tells Blaise that she loves him, and that’s the cutest thing to see.”
