The campaign says Kamala will advocate for stricter asylum and border controls

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris will defend, on Friday, when she speaks in Arizona, greater restrictions on granting asylum at the North American border with Mexico, a member of her campaign team said.

The campaign member revealed that Kamala will call for changing the current asylum ban at the border, and expanding the scope of the measure.

The Vice President will face former President and Republican candidate Donald Trump on November 5. According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, immigration is one of voters’ biggest concerns.

Trump criticized Kamala over the record number of migrants caught crossing the border in recent years. The candidate accused her rival of encouraging Republican parliamentarians to reject the Senate law aimed at strengthening border security.

Biden in June issued a broad asylum ban on immigrants who cross the border illegally. They will be quickly deported to Mexico when the daily average of arrests in the region exceeds 2,500 people for more than a week.

The ban went into effect immediately and will remain in effect until average daily arrests fall below 1,500 for one week, followed by a two-week monitoring period.

Kamala should propose a policy change so that the minimum of 1,500 is lowered.

The candidate will present details of the proposals in a speech in the border city of Douglas, Arizona.
