The Biden government has announced plans to control wildfires in the United States

The Biden administration on Tuesday unveiled a 10-year plan to treat and maintain millions of hectares of extra forest in the western United States to reduce the severity of seasonal wildfires.

“We are not going to stop the fire, but to begin the process of mitigating the catastrophic nature of this fire,” US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Wilsack said in an interview with Randy Moore, head of the forest department in Arizona.

The project, is called Forest fire crisis strategyWilsock & Moore said it aims to make 20 million hectares of forest healthier and more resistant to these phenomena through treatments such as thinning, pruning and recommended burning.

Wildfire seasons in the United States have worsened in recent years after decades of federal policy, leading to the creation of flammable shrubs that prevent fires from being extinguished immediately and some burned in a controlled manner.

Climate change has led to warmer, drier conditions in the western United States, making fires more common and bushes more flammable.

The U.S. Forest Service has historically treated about 800,000 hectares annually in Western America, the report says.

Under the new plan, the Forest Service, Interior and other partners will clear an additional 8 million hectares of National Forest Organization land and 12 million hectares of federal, state and private land over the next ten years. .

Priority will be given to Arizona, Colorado, California, Oregon and Washington.
