Carlos Nascimento, Head of Delegation Brazilian team At the 1966 World Cup in England, members of the Beatles were prevented from meeting Pele during the match.
This interesting fact was revealed by the king of football himself in interviews. The footballer passed away today at the age of 82.
Already a world football star, Pele arrived at the England tournament much-loved by the press and fans alike. The Beatles, already internationally successful singers, tried to meet the Brazilian, but were blocked by Nascimento.
However, the king was not immediately aware of Carlos’ refusal. Instead, he found out what happened almost ten years later, when he was already playing American football as an athlete for the New York Cosmos. The assailant wondered if the leader should not know the artists.
Peele was taking an English class at a school and on one occasion met John Lennon, who was studying Japanese at the same institution. The singer later recalled the incident where he and his band members prevented him from meeting the player in person.
“Look, there’s a history with the Beatles that a few people know about. In 1966, at the World Cup, we were in Liverpool and the Beatles wanted to play packed for Pele. The hairies aren’t going to play here, no. These kids aren’t going to make noise here,” Peele said in an interview.
