The Australian Open confirms that it will only accept vaccinated tennis players | sport shoes

The Australian Open has officially announced that only fully vaccinated tennis players can compete in the 2022 edition of the Grand Slam tournament that opens the world tennis season. The decision is in line with what the local authorities have already said, not wanting athletes who are not immunized.

– It was very clear, when the Prime Minister said weeks ago, that you should come to the Australian Open to be fully vaccinated. We immediately pass this on to the group of players. All the players recognized, said Tournament Director Craig Tilley, that everyone needs to be vaccinated, and staff will need to be vaccinated.

The decision comes amid fear of some athletes from receiving vaccinations, as is the case of Novak Djokovic, the current number one in the world and champion of the Australian Open in 2021.

The Australian Championships will start on January 17 in Melbourne and end on January 30 with the men’s singles grand final. The greatest champion in Australian history, Djokovic could overtake Nadal and Federer and isolate himself in the number of cups from major tournaments… if he decides to take the vaccine to play.
